St. John’s Lutheran Church celebrates 150 years

St. John’s Lutheran Church along Highway 38, outside of Monticello, is celebrating 150 years on Sunday, June 29.

The community is invited to a dinner celebration at noon at the Monticello Eagles Club. Adults are $10 in advance; $12 at the door. Children under 10 are $7. Tickets can be purchased by calling the church at 465-4842 or through Marv Rickels at 465-5172.

    Cultural foundation purchases former Starlighters Theatre

    Last week it was announced that the former Starlighters II Theatre building was sold to Natural & Cultural Heritage Foundation of Jones County Area.

    The Foundation worked with Starlighters Board member Jim Lauzon on the deal, as well as purchasing the adjoining Masonic building.

    Council takes close look at outdoor events, in-home businesses
